NASSER ALSHAIKHAHMED/ SAUDI ARABIA "About the prominent poet, Cavafy"

This 29th of April 2024,  commemorating 91 years since  the poet’s passed.

This is a short essay about Cavafy.

Constantine P. Cavafy, often known simply as Cavafy, stands as one of the most revered and influential poets of the 20th century. Born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1863, Cavafy's life and work are a testament to the power of poetry to transcend time and space, capturing the essence of human experience in all its complexity.

Cavafy's poetry is marked by a unique blend of historical imagination, personal reflection, and profound insight into the human condition. Drawing upon his Greek heritage and the rich tapestry of ancient history, Cavafy crafted poems that resonated with themes of love, desire, loss, and the passage of time. His verses often explore the tension between the past and the present, the fleeting nature of beauty, and the eternal quest for meaning in a world defined by impermanence.

And this is the poem

ODE TO DIVINE

In Alexandria's streets, where history lies,
A poet wanders under ancient skies.
Constantine, the weaver of dreams,
In the labyrinth of time, his poetry gleams.

With ink as dark as the night's embrace,
He paints visions of love and grace.
Through shadowed halls and whispered sighs,
His verses soar like Falcons in the highs.

In every stanza, a journey told
Through corridors of longing, tales unfold.
The past and present interlace,
In Kavafy's world, where memories trace.

From city squares to distant shores,
His words, like waves, forever roar.
Through ruins and temples, his voice resounds.
In the hearts of readers, his magic abounds.

At the edge of twilight, where dreams take flight,
His poetry dances at night.
In echoes of passion, in whispers of pain,
His songs linger, like a haunting refrain.

Oh, poet of Alexandria, master of the pen,
In your words, the world finds solace again.
Through the sands of time, your legacy endures,
A beacon of light, forever pure.

In the fragrant air of an ancient land,
His poetry is like golden sand.
Each line a jewel, each word a gem,
In the poet's heart, we find a hem.

So let us raise a toast to this writer's art,
To Kavafy's spirit, never apart.
In the blends of life, his words entwine,
A timeless ode to the divine.
