A poem by Nazifa Hasan

 Beauty That Breathes

.                                Nazifa Hasan

Everyone loves the flower—its brief and blazing song.
But I’ve learned to love the leaves that linger when it’s gone.

The flower flares for moments, a spark of borrowed light;
The leaves stay through the quiet, the rain, the longest night.

The flower basks in glances, in being seen, to be—
The leaves just breathe and offer shade, a steady constancy.

So beauty isn’t brilliance, or glory, or applause—
It’s in the patient, unseen strength that holds up all it draws.
