A large number of Grammy Awards at the 2026 Grammy Awards were expected for Kendrick Lamar, who led the nominations this year with nine, the most of any artist this year, bringing his total career nominations to 66. Lamar did indeed excel and won a significant number of awards. He now ranks second in history after Quincy Jones, surpassing Michael Jackson and Jay-Z.

Kendrick Lamar surpasses Jay-Z and achieves a historic milestone.
Kendrick Lamar set a new record at the 2026 Grammy Awards, becoming the most awarded rapper in history with 27 awards, surpassing Jay-Z's previous record of 25.

Lamar, 38, won the award for Best Rap Album for his album "GNX," and also won Record of the Year for the song "Luther," featuring SZA.
In his acceptance speech, Lamar said, "I'm not very good at talking about myself, but I express myself through music. It's a great honor to be here." He also praised his fellow nominees, saying, "Tyler the Creator, Clips. These guys are my brothers for being in this category. How are you doing, Bush and Malis? Every time I say this, hip-hop will always be here. We'll wear these cool suits. We'll look our best. Our families will be here. Our culture will be here." He concluded, "So thank you all, glory to God. I love you all."
Lamar also won Best Rap Performance for "Chains & Whips," which he performed with Clips, Busha T, Malis, and Pharrell Williams; Best Rhythmic Rap Performance for "Luther"; and Best Rap Song for "tv off."
Steven Spielberg Achieves Rare Feat at the 2026 Grammy Awards
The Grammy Awards ceremony was full of surprises, with its various segments and performances. Among the surprises was Steven Spielberg's first Grammy win. The 79-year-old, considered one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers in cinematic history and the highest-grossing film director of all time, won his first Grammy in the Best Musical Feature category for the documentary "Music by John Williams," which he produced. Spielberg's achievement lies not only in winning his first Grammy and his first nomination, but also in achieving the EGOT award, one of the rarest awards in Hollywood, meaning he has won in all four major entertainment categories: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

Spielberg, who did not accept the award in person, said in a statement: "I thank all the members of the Grammy Awards jury, whose recognition of John Williams' music means so much to me and to Amblin, Darrell Frank and Justin Falvi, and to our partners at Imagine and The Walt Disney Company."

He added: "This recognition means so much to me. It confirms what I've known for over 50 years: John Williams' influence on culture and music is unparalleled, and his art and legacy are unmatched." He concluded: "I'm proud to be associated with Laurent's magnificent film."
