The Price of Peace: Life’s Journey
By Author Haroon Rashid
Life often feels like a drive on an open road, with the wind in our hair and a deep sense of freedom coursing through us. There’s something profound about the simplicity of a fine-weather drive, the windows down, the air rushing in—bringing a sense of peace and aliveness all at once. But, much like that gentle breeze, true peace in life is a delicate balance, a sensation that must be both experienced and earned.
In this journey of life, we’re often led to believe that peace and fulfillment can come without any cost. But if we look closely, especially through the lens of ancient wisdom and spiritual practices, we realize that peace demands a certain price. Every religion, in its way, teaches us this truth. Whether through the bowing down of the body in prayer, the kneeling, or the stillness of meditation, each of these acts involves a small sacrifice, a test of patience, a willingness to go through discomfort. It’s a reminder that sometimes we must endure moments of difficulty to truly appreciate peace when it comes.
This isn’t to say we must suffer constantly to find happiness. Rather, it is the recognition that small pains and sacrifices lend value to the peaceful moments we find. If we were handed peace without struggle, we might not value it as deeply. The act of bending, of putting effort into our pursuit of peace, makes us realize just how precious it is. So, in a way, a bit of pain helps us understand the worth of joy and teaches us resilience, making us stronger in our journey.
When it comes to relationships, this understanding of balance is just as important. In our desire to connect with others, we often lean toward dependency. We give ourselves fully, hoping the other person will complete us, fill the gaps within us. Yet, if we lose ourselves entirely in someone else, we risk losing the very essence of who we are. A true and fulfilling relationship isn’t about losing oneself; it’s about finding the strength to be whole on our own, and then sharing a part of that completeness with someone else.
Imagine two parallel rivers, each flowing independently yet meeting along the way, enriching each other’s paths without losing their own direction. That’s the ideal balance in a relationship. You live your life, they live theirs, and together you create a shared journey without compromising the individual growth and happiness that each of you deserves. Fulfillment in love comes not from merging entirely, but from blooming together, side by side, respecting each other’s journey.
Protecting our peace and mental balance requires a delicate dance between togetherness and independence. If we depend entirely on someone else for our happiness, we put an overwhelming weight on them and, in turn, on ourselves. Instead, if we build our happiness from within, if we complete ourselves and offer a part of that to another, we find a balance that doesn’t require us to drown in one another. This doesn’t mean isolation but rather a healthy boundary—a space for each person to thrive individually while being a source of support and love for the other.
In the end, peace and fulfillment come not from any one person, place, or moment, but from the way we choose to walk our path. They come from recognizing that life is a blend of joy and struggle, that each brings value to the other. Cherish the moments of beauty, embrace the small pains, and let them teach you the worth of peace. Share your journey with others but keep a part of it for yourself. This is the wisdom that life offers us, and I hope it brings you a sense of calm and clarity, wherever your path may lead.
Live fully, love gracefully, and always protect your peace.

The Price of Peace
By Author Haroon Rashid
There’s a calm that rides on the open breeze,
In a fine-weather drive, a moment seized,
With mirrors down, the world flies by,
And in that rush, I learn to sigh.
Peace, it seems, has a price to pay,
In quiet bends and the words we say,
In the kneeling down, the bending low,
To find the light, we face the shadow.
For every prayer that moves the heart,
Each whispered vow, a gentle start,
The pain reminds us what joy can be,
How worth the cost of being free.
And love, too, holds this secret line,
To be complete, yet intertwine,
Two souls that bloom, yet walk alone,
Sharing part, yet still their own.
Like rivers running side by side,
We meet, we part, we ebb, we glide,
Not drowning, no, but flowing near,
In love that’s strong, yet crystal-clear.
So guard your peace, let none invade,
This quiet space your soul has made,
For though the world may come and go,
The truest peace is the one you know.
In every bend, in each new start,
Find the balance, hold your heart.
