Oh, poetry!
Oh, poetry! You inspire poets,
To create odes, madrigals, sonnets,
You make us poets sing of our feelings,
You make our souls open to the world.
Oh, poetry! You give strength and spirit
You develop imagination, memory and hearing,
You inspire hope, faith and spirit,
You teach speech, oratory, reading aloud.
Oh, poetry! The thought, the depth of ideas,
So great and unparalleled,
You improve your mind, your vocabulary,
And to the home of the Muses you call Parnassus.
Oh, poetry! So much beauty in verse,
You build bridges of friendship between nations,
All the winged lines that work wonders:
Healing from trauma, light to heal the heart.
Oh, poetry! You shape culture,
Preserving language, preserving literature,
You evoke emotion and skill,
Every word has melody and magic in it.
A hymn to the world's poetry, I praise it,
I declare it the queen of the arts.
Without you there can be no inspiration
No expression of feeling, no enlightenment!
